“…But Drosselmeyer’s gift to Clara was the best one of all – an astoundingly beautiful wooden nutcracker.”
-Shobhna Patel, The Nutcracker
Hi everyone! While it’s still winter, I’m kicking off my first book tour of 2018 with a gorgeous, pop-up copy of The Nutcracker by Shobhna Patel that the lovely people at Thames & Hudson kindly sent me.
It is a beautiful slim hardback in lovely colours:
The end-papers are the same cappuccino colour that you can see contrasted with the blue on the cover.
The text to the story is accompanied by beautiful illustrations and it’s all very magical and festive! It is a slim book, so there aren’t too many pages in it, but the paper is thick and good quality. To give you an idea of the style, here is the first page of the story:
But the true magic to this edition lies in the lasercut papercut pop-up scenes that are wondrously elaborate and detailed and in a range of gorgeous hues. There are four in total and each one is truly a work of art.
Here are a couple!
As you can see, they are large and in fine detail. I absolutely love them! And it makes this story even more magical.
If you’re a fan of The Nutcracker, then I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s a lovely addition to a home library or perfect to read aloud to a child. A book to admire and treasure.
That’s the end of today’s book tour! Thank you very much for reading. Has anyone else got this edition? What do you think of it? Who else loves The Nutcracker as much as I do?
