A Crown of Wishes (Spoiler Free!) Review

“Find the one who glows, with blood on the lips and fangs in the heart.”

-Roshani Chokshi, A Crown of Wishes.

Hey guys! As you’re probably aware, A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi was recently released on 28th March. But you might not be aware of how amazing this book is! So, let me tell you…

This book is gorgeous.

A Crown of Wishes follows Chokski’s first book, The Star Touched Queen, to complete the duology. Although it’s a standalone story and focuses on a different set of characters, I’d strongly recommend you do read TSTQ first as the main characters from TSTQ make a few appearances in ACOW, which you’d appreciate more if you’ve read the first book.

The book begins with Gauri, the brave and ferocious princess of Bharata, who is currently a prisoner of war in a neighbouring, enemy kingdom. Then the fox prince appears: Vikram, prince of her enemies by name, not blood, and dissatisfied with his lot. But Vikram has just received an invitation to The Tournament of Wishes, and Gauri might be just the person he’s been required to bring as his partner. The unlikely pair have to journey to the mythical city of beasts and enchantments, where the tournament is held, then face a series of dangerous challenges if they hope to win a wish each. A wish that could ensure everything they want and need for their futures.

I adored Gauri; fierce princesses for the win! I also really liked Vikram, his wit and emotional centre were a great combination, and the two characters together played off each other well, creating a nice dynamic that made for enjoyable reading. The plot was unique, the story well crafted and the ending satisfying, but what really steals the show is Roshani Chokshi’s writing. Her lyrical writing style is sumptuous and imagery rich, every bit as magical as the night bazaar itself.

I’m giving this 4.5/5 stars and a massive recommendation to fans of YA fantasies. A big thank you to St Martin’s Press for sending me an early copy of this beauty to review!

Who else is a fan of Roshani Chokshi? I for one, cannot wait to see what she has next in store for us!
